Overview

Step back in time with a fascinating visit to Brian Fish’s historic bullock farm, where Tasmania’s rural heritage has been carefully preserved through Brian’s passion, knowledge and dedication.

Meet the working bullocks and discover how these gentle giants were trained and worked on farms before the arrival of tractors and modern machinery. Hear the stories behind their important role in Tasmania’s early farming and transport industries.

Explore sheds filled with an impressive collection of heritage farming equipment, wagons, yokes and rural memorabilia, and enjoy demonstrations and fascinating explanations of how farming, heavy work and transport were once carried out.

A unique opportunity to experience Tasmania’s rural history through the stories, skills and traditions that have been lovingly preserved at the farm.

  • The tour is weather dependent. In the event of unsuitable weather or circumstances beyond our control, the itinerary may be altered, postponed or cancelled.
  • The experience takes place on a working historic farm and includes uneven ground, unsealed surfaces and walking. Guests should wear comfortable, sturdy footwear and be prepared for variable weather conditions.
  • Guests will be in the vicinity of working bullocks and historic farming equipment and are required to follow all safety instructions provided by the farm hosts and McDermott’s staff.
  • The itinerary and timings may vary depending on weather, operating conditions and the availability of the farm hosts and demonstrations.
  • Lunch in Campbell Town is at guests’ own expense and is not included in the tour price.
  • This experience is intended to provide an authentic insight into Tasmania’s rural heritage. Some areas of the property may have limited accessibility due to the historic nature of the site and uneven terrain.
