We are collected from home, transferred to Launceston airport to meet with our host and rest of the group, for our departure to Sydney. On arrival we make our way to our hotel. Enjoying a welcome dinner at our hotel restaurant, we will get to know the group we will be spending the next coming days with as we discover the unique destination, that is Lord Howe Island.
After breakfast at the hotel, we check out to be transferred to the airport for our flight to Lord Howe Island. With a short 2-hour flight, almost 800km from Sydney, we land on Lord Howe Island where we meet with our hosts and make our way to our accommodation. We will settle into Island life and enjoy lunch at one of the many restaurants available then have some free time to explore before we check into our accommodation at Ocean View Apartments. Ocean View is ideally situated off the main road and is close to many island facilities including restaurants, cafés, general stores, bike hire and the post office. 100 meters away you will find the only jetty on the island at Lagoon Beach for a quiet swim. Once we are settled in, we make our way to the local hall to enjoy three short historical movies from the flying boat days, as our first introduction to Lord Howe Island. Tonight, we have dinner at the nearby Anchorage restaurant.
This morning after enjoying an on-site breakfast to fuel our day, we join an Island Bus Tour as an inspirational introduction on Lord Howe Island. Learn everything there is to know about the island. You may wish to spend this afternoon indulging in the island life, whether that means some time on the beach, exploring the local pathways, or some self-care treatments.
Late this afternoon we visit the museum, a collection of innovative displays on the Island’s word heritage environment, community and history – including a skeleton of an extinct giant horned turtle. Once we have explored the museum, we enjoy dinner at the on-site Coral Café, before returning to our accommodation.
We enjoy our final day by setting sail on a two-hour Coral Boat Tour, exploring the profuse coral seascape and introduces visitors to some of the more unusual lagoon inhabitants such as the endemic double-header wrasse, stingrays and turtles. Soak in and relax on the boat as you take in the stunning diversity of this exotic marine location. This afternoon we will explore the Little Island Track to view the aerial courtship displays by the winter breeding providence petrel. One of the rarest birds, the providence petrel returns to the island to nest and can be ‘called’ out of the air, landing at your feet and even climbing into your lap. Tonight, we enjoy dinner at the Driftwood Restaurant and Bar, on-site at our accommodation.
We check out of our accommodation for a last-minute sight-seeing or touring (subject to flight time) before making our way to the airport as we return to Sydney, where we overnight once again to ensure a smooth travel back to Launceston.
We check out of our Sydney accommodation this morning to make our way to the airport where we catch our Launceston flight home and are then transferred back to our point of pick up. After exploring a world away that is Lord Howe Island, a rare and enchanting experience, offering a mix of stunning natural beauty, tranquility, and adventure.
