DEPARTING LAUNCESTON
A full day tour to Cradle Mountain, with pickups starting at 7.30am. The tour travels via Sheffield, the Town of Murals before travelling up into the mountains through gorges, rain forest and button grass plains to reach the destination of Cradle Mountain, one of Tasmania’s most recognisable landmarks and one of Tasmania’s most visited attractions.
On this fully guided day tour you experience the unique flora, fauna and geographical features of the World Heritage listed National Park.

A great introductory walk to the park. Enjoy iconic views of Cradle Mountain and walk through the tranquil Ballroom Forest on one of Tasmania’s premier short walks.

Weather conditions in Tasmania can change quickly and frequently, especially in alpine areas. Snow, rain, wind and sun are all possible at any time of the year, and bushfires can occur between October and March.
Important: please observe all track signs – they are provided for your safety. Always stay on the formed walking tracks, this is both for your own safety and to protect the sensitive alpine environment.

Departing Launceston between 7.30-8.00am from one of our four pickup points, we and travel through the scenic Meander Valley and follow the Great Western Tiers to visit the beautiful township of Sheffield featuring more than 140 murals which depict the pioneering history and character of the Cradle Mountain region.
From Sheffield we continue our journey past the old Hydro township of Gowrie Park and through the Forth River gorge and move through eucalyptus forests and button grass plains to Cradle Mountain, one of Australia’s most recognisable landmarks and one of Tasmania’s most visited attractions and the jewel in the crown of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.
Discover the rugged and stunning beauty of the ancient Cradle Valley, its complex geology, ancient rainforests and heaths with a hike of Dove Lake that will take you up to Glacier Rock and visit one of Dove Lake’s quartzite beaches. On clear days you will see the magnificent, jagged dolerite peaks of Cradle Mountain and see Kathleen Falls on the other side of the Lake.
Our walk will begin with a safety debriefing at the foot of the Lake. The track is 6km in length, which is walked in a clockwise direction.
We set out from Dove Lake directly beneath Cradle Mountain. This premier walk will offer you some spectacular views of the famous mountain!
The walk will take approximately 4hrs including a lunch stop along the way. The track travels around Dove Lake, passing beneath the mountain, then returns through stunning rainforest to the tour starting point. You will have the opportunity to venture through some of Tasmania's special vegetation found in this area.
A picnic style lunch is provided as part of the tour. This will be issued to you prior to the walk; please ensure you have a suitable bag to take this with you. Ensure you read through the walk safety guidelines and requirements prior to booking this tour.
IMPORTANT: this track is noted at a Grade 3 for hiking; some bushwalking experience is recommended. Tracks during the walk may have short steep hill sections, a rough surface and many steps. Please ensure you have an adequate fitness level to complete the walk for your own safety.
A good level of fitness is required to complete this circuit for your own safety.
It is at the discretion of the tour guide to deny a passenger participation due to the physical demands of the walk. Should this be the case, the passenger will be transferred to participate in the Park Explorer Tour
This tour operates in all weather conditions, unless cancelled by the tour operator. Wind, rain and snow can occur anytime of the year.
This tour does not operate on Christmas Day.
